Serie A 2024/25 News, Predictions and Updates

The Serie A is one of the most competitive leagues in world football nowadays. Between 2011 and 2020, Juventus won the title nine times, but the previous five Scudettos since have been won by four different teams.

The 2024/25 campaign is set to start on the 17th of August with Genoa welcoming Inter to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, and there will be 379 other matches across the season for us to enjoy. Below we will provide you with the latest news, the top fixtures, and our predictions.

No Serie A Winter Break

The English Premier League have decided to do away with any winter break this season, opting for a later start to the league instead. While La Liga, despite starting just days earlier, have decided to keep the winter break for their clubs.

We would have expected the Serie A to follow in the footsteps of La Liga, but they have actually also opted against giving their clubs time off over the Christmas period. This is great for us football fans as it gives us plenty of matches to watch while we stuff our faces with food and drink plenty of wine and beer.

The Top Serie A Transfers During the Summer Window

There have been many exciting transfers in Serie A during this summer’s transfer window, and now we are going to take you through some of the best ones that have gone through so far ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Piotr Zielinski

The Polish international’s arrival at Inter Milan will provide the reigning champions with support and depth in both attack and defence. Known for his creativity and versatility, Zielinski’s Serie A experience could prove to be an astute signing that goes a long way to ensuring that Inter do not relinquish the title that they won last season.

Mehdi Taremi

Inter have also signed Taremi on a free transfer, which could go down as one of the best bits of transfer business this summer. The Iran international has no issue when it comes to finding the back of the net as can be seen from the fact that he scored 91 goals in 182 matches for Porto.

Douglas Luiz

Aston Villa needed to sell some players before the end of June to avoid being hit with a points deduction, and Juventus were the beneficiaries of this as they were able to snap up Douglas Luiz for €51 million.

He is calm and collected when he has the ball at his feet, can pick a pass, and knows where the back of the net is. Juventus will be competing on multiple fronts this season, and this signing could help them live up to expectations.

Nicolo Zaniolo

It is fair to say that Zaniolo’s loan spell at Aston Villa last season did not go to plan, so it will be intriguing to see how he fairs with Atalanta. There is a quality player in there somewhere, so if he can find his best form under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, then he could become very important for them in their quest to qualify for European football once again.

Artem Dovbyk

The Ukrainian was one of the outstanding players in Serie A last season, scoring 24 goals and providing eight assists in the 36 matches that he played in. His stellar season went a long way towards securing Champions League football for Girona.

Roma will be ecstatic that they were able to acquire his services for a relatively small fee, in today’s football world, of €30 million. If he manages to have a similar season to last year, then it will not be much of a surprise to see Roma qualify for the Champions League.

2024/25 Serie A Fixtures to Look Out For

Each Serie A season is composed of 380 games, so there are many top fixtures that we can entertain ourselves with and place some bets on, if you are that way inclined. Below, we shall take you through some of the most enticing fixtures of the 2024/25 Serie A.

Genoa vs Inter (17th August)

Inter, the reigning champions, will start their title defence against Genoa. The away team will be expected to pick up all three points, but Genoa are no mugs at home. Last season, these two teams played out a 1-1 draw, so Inter will be hoping they go on better this time to kick their season off in style.

Juventus vs Como (19th August)

This will be Thiago Motta’s first Serie A match in charge of Juventus, while Cesc Fabregas will be experiencing his very first Serie A league game as manager of Como. Both managers will be wanting to get off to a winning start.

Juventus vs Roma (1st September)

Juventus and Roma will more than likely be battling it out for a spot in next season’s Champions League, so the three points that are on offer here could end up being crucial come the end of May. Neither team will want to lose, so it should end up being a tight and dramatic affair.

Inter vs Milan (22nd September)

This is one of the fiercest rivalries in Italian football, so it is always a match that is worth sitting down to watch. It should be a game that has plenty of goalmouth action, while you can guarantee that there will be a number of dodgy tackles flying about.

Juventus vs Torino (10th November)

The first Derby della Mole of the 2024/25 season will take place on the 10th of November. Torino will probably finish somewhere around mid-table, but they will be eager to put a little dent in their rival’s chances of winning the title or claiming a top four spot.

AC Milan vs Juventus (24th November)

Once again, this is another fixture where both teams will be expecting to finish in the top four come the end of the season. These teams hate losing to each other, so we are expecting a fierce contest at the San Siro.

Napoli vs Lazio (8th December)

Napoli won the Scudetto at the end of the 2022/23 season, but their defence of their title during the 2023/24 campaign was very poor. They will be looking to do much better this time around, and at least claim a Europa League spot come May. Lazio will also be looking to finish in the top six, and this match could go a long way to deciding who qualifies for Europe and who misses out.

Atalanta vs Inter Milan (16th March)

Atalanta had a fantastic season last year, finishing in 4th place and winning the Europa League. By the time this match comes along we will know what kind of season they are having this time around. I expect them to be battling it out for a spot in the top four, and a win against Inter, who will probably be in first place at this point, would be a huge three points.

Who Will Win Serie A 2024/25?

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan are the hot favourites to retain the title that they won last season as they have managed to keep the core of their title-winning team. They have also added some top signings in the form of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski.

They finished 19 points ahead of second place AC Milan last season, suffering just two defeats across the season. They are a cut above the rest, and a 21st Scudetto is definitely theirs to lose.

Who Will Claim a Champions League Spot?

Another tense battle for the three remaining Champions League spots will be on the cards with the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, Roma, Bologna, Napoli, and Lazio all in with a shout. We think that Juventus and Milan are all but guaranteed to finish in one of the Champions League spots, so who will claim the fourth and final position?

Our money is on Atalanta as Gasperini has them playing some attractive football. Bologna were the surprise package of the Serie A last season, but they have lost key players and their manager, so we do not see them repeating the trick.

Who Will Be Relegated?

Just one of the three promoted teams last season was relegated to Serie B at the end of the campaign, with Genoa nearly finishing in the top half and Cagliari surviving by a solitary point. It is hard for newly promoted teams to avoid relegation, and both Venezia and Como are being backed for a swift stay in Italy’s top flight. Parma, who were the Serie B champions last season, are expected to finish just above the relegation zone.

As for the third and final relegation spot, there are a number of teams that will be battling it out for survival, including the likes of Empoli, Cagliari, Hellas Verona, and Lecce.
